Stratford, ON: The Stratford Soccer Association (SSA) is excited to announce that it has received an $8,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to do a feasibility study and case for support to improve the Rotary Soccer Park at Packham Road. Funds will be used to develop communications and information tools to help assess the types of activities that could be offered at the facility. “I want to congratulate the Stratford Soccer Association on this exciting project,” said MPP Pettapiece. “I also want to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for acknowledging and supporting their work. I’m very confident this initiative will help to promote physical activity and further strengthen our community.” — Randy Pettapiece, MPP for Perth-Wellington SSA plans to convert the existing 18 acre Rotary Soccer Park to a vibrant year-round facility. The project will include the construction of a fenced, and lit, artificial turf premier field, as well as change rooms and washrooms. There are also plans for a play park, picnic area and public pavilion for community events. Also included in the plans are public walking and biking paths throughout the facility amongst over 100 newly planted trees. During winter, the facility will feature cross country ski and snowshoe trails. “This Project, with its inclusiveness and multi-function capabilities, represents exactly the kind of community effort that draws people to our wonderful city and keeps them here.” — Colm Feore, Honorary Chair, SSA “The Trillium Grant is an important first step in our plans. Many Ontario communities have access to an artificial turf field, allowing field usage for 8-9 months of the year instead of only 5. This inclusive plan also opens up the facility to the greater community for year round use.” — Graham Bunting, President, SSA About SSA: The Stratford Soccer Association (SSA) represents over 1,600 soccer players of all ages, genders and abilities who play in organized leagues and teams in Stratford. About OTF: A leading grantmaker in Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation strengthens the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives. An agency of the Government of Ontario, OTF builds healthy and vibrant communities. For more information, please visit: www.otf.ca
